03 · Research

Make the decision after looking at the market, not before.

Research earns its place when it changes something: a price, a position, a plan, or the decision to stop. Everything here is scoped towards a decision you have to make.

Evidence, sources and a recommendation.

Why this work matters

Research as decision support

Plenty of research gets commissioned, read once and filed. That usually happens because the question was never sharp enough, or because the findings arrived without a recommendation attached.

We start from the decision. What are you choosing between, what would need to be true for each option, and what evidence would settle it. The report is built to answer that, with the sources shown so you can check the reasoning yourself.

What the work covers

01

Market understanding

What the market looks like, who is in it and where it appears to be heading.

  • Market size and structure from credible public sources
  • Segments, and who is served well or badly
  • Barriers, costs and practical constraints
  • Where demand appears to be moving

02

Competitor analysis

A clear picture of who you are being compared with, and on what.

  • A competitor set defined and justified
  • Offer, pricing and positioning compared side by side
  • How they present themselves and where they are visible
  • Public review and sentiment patterns
  • Gaps that are genuinely open to you

03

Customer and audience research

What buyers say they want, and what their behaviour suggests they actually do.

  • Audience definition and buying context
  • Interview or survey design and delivery, where in scope
  • Reviews, forums and community research
  • Objections, hesitations and the language buyers use

04

Pricing and positioning

Where you sit today, where you could sit, and what would have to change.

  • Comparable pricing across the competitor set
  • How value is being justified elsewhere
  • Positioning options with the trade-offs stated
  • Practical implications of a change in price

05

Trends and opportunities

What is shifting in the market, and which of those shifts is worth acting on.

  • Trends supported by more than one source
  • Opportunities ranked by effort and plausibility
  • Risks that deserve attention before committing

06

Concept validation support

For a new product, service or business, an honest look before the money goes in.

  • Whether the problem is real, and who has it
  • Who already serves it, and how well
  • What the evidence supports, and what it does not
  • The questions still open, stated plainly

07

Research reporting

Findings written to be used rather than admired.

  • A summary that stands on its own
  • Findings separated from interpretation
  • Recommendations with the reasoning attached
  • Sources listed, so anything can be checked

What you receive

Outputs are agreed at the start. A piece of research usually includes some combination of these.

  • Research report
  • Competitor matrix
  • Market landscape
  • Findings summary
  • Recommendations
  • Source list
  • Decision brief

Where the evidence comes from

Toyzie Studio does not hold proprietary datasets. Research draws on sources that can be named and checked.

  • Credible secondary sources, including published industry and government data
  • Direct analysis of competitors' public offers, pricing and communications
  • Platform and search research
  • Qualitative research through interviews or surveys, where the scope allows
  • Public market information, reviews and community discussion

Engagement

What the engagement can look like

Research is usually a defined project with a start and an end. Scope, method and outputs are agreed before it begins.

Competitor study

A defined competitor set analysed on offer, price, positioning and visibility, delivered as a matrix and a written summary.

Market and opportunity review

A wider look at the market, its segments and where the practical openings are, with recommendations.

Pricing and positioning review

Comparable pricing, how value is justified elsewhere, and options for where you could sit.

Decision brief

A shorter piece of work aimed at one specific decision, delivered as a brief rather than a full report.

Pricing is agreed after a conversation, once the scope is clear. Nothing is quoted before the work is understood.

The other two services

Start with the decision

Tell us what you are trying to decide, and by when. The reply will set out what could realistically be established in that time, and what could not.
